Affordable Fashion

Affordable fashion is a contradiction of terms, or at least used to be. If it was affordable it could not be fashion and if it were fashion then it would not be affordable. However with the commercialisation of fashion this is changing.

The rich and famous pay exorbitant prices to have exclusive control over fashion but the public at large has the numbers that bring in huge profits at small margins. Therefore the fashion industry is in two minds. Some still prefer to make exclusivity their unique selling proposition and cater to the elite few. Whereas others bring in mass-produced goods and either through marketing hype or by imitating the trend setters (or both) make a fashion statement of their own. There is the third type that sells a range of products and services and caters to the classes and the masses. The masses feel contented that by using the brand name they are in fashion. This is the contemporary face of affordable fashion.

Therefore Caribbean cruises have a higher fare for the more fashionable with everything included and a budget fare for affordable fashion that includes only the minimum with extra for the frills. Fashion houses produce the exclusive high priced range of garments in thousands of numbers, whereas similar (but not the same) moderately priced garments are manufactured in millions of pieces.

Affordable fashion has another aspect as well. If one has the attitude and poise one does not need big bucks to make a fashion statement. Funk jewellery, boldly and tastefully worn, can set a fashion trend. Faded and burnt and slashed jeans that are so much in fashion today were the creation of ordinary people who wished to be different. Jeans manufacturers entered the bandwagon much later.

So if you are gutsy and bold make your own affordable fashion. If not, there is plenty of it available in the market.

Fashion Trends

Fashion is a part already of our daily life. We adopt our fashion style depends on the weather or seasons occurred. The effect of Fashion in our life gives us the benefit of getting into something new. Through fashion we re-establish new line of our culture. We invent new knowledge of redefining ourselves. An effect of regenerating new trends of lifestyle and building new generations of people through Fashion. Fashion imposes what we wear whatever is in season.

Otherwise, you are not recognized if you wear conflicting clothes that are not suited in the season. Usually, in fashion, we follow certain norms in order to get "IN" in the majority style of trends. Its just like following some certain rules of becoming fashionable in a sort of certain season. Mostly celebrities take the eye of the world updating on what fashion they have.

An effect of judging them by the population of the world on what they wear on certain occasion. For this reason, celebrities come up to have a famous designer in order to incorporate with them their own sense of style. The latest fashion trends is one way of changing the fashion style from the previous. The latest is dealing to be the best trends by this time.

Again live it to the PRO's, the latest fashion trends are always starts on what clothes are wears by the celebrities and models. As we saw the clothes they wears, we imitate or adopt it and became the newest trends of fashion. The designer's are the brains of hitting the new fashion style. They forecast what is "IN". But somebody don't agree on what trends are in today.

They have their own identity in creating their own style of fashion. Create your style is one way of diverting a new trend of fashion into a personalize style of fashion.

Most of personalize style are applied by teenagers. They want something new and unique that differs from others. In this concept, they create a new line of fashion trends that keeps their own identity as a teenager.

Fashion Weeks

Creative sensational from different parts of the world taking style, beauty and definition of fashion to its edge, promotional linchpin of a multibillion-dollar industry, I am talking about nothing else but Fashion Weeks. Fashion weeks are hallmarks of fashion industry to rollout the new season feel in fashion. They generally last up to a week allowing fashion designers, artists and fashion houses to display their latest collection. It hallmarks next seasons in things, that's why it is very important for buyers, media, celebrities and entertainment industry who take that fashion among the general public.

The most famous fashion weeks are held at Fashion Mecca Paris, Milan, London and New York. Since the new millennium fashion weeks are held in different parts of the world to put the local fashion on the world map and making a packed fashion calendar throughout the year. A refreshing sense of national identity and pride has emerged from the achievements of fashion sector - something that was otherwise traditionally been restricted to feats of sporting prowess, adding that its benefits go well beyond the fashion world (Emling 2006).

Fashion weeks are held several months in advance giving chance to designers, media and buyers to preview the trend for the next season. Fashion weeks are bi-annual events; the fashion weeks conducted between January and March are called “fall fashion weeks” whereas the one conducted in September through November are called “Spring Fashion Weeks”. Some fashion weeks can be genre-specific, such as a Miami Fashion Week (Swimwear), PrĂȘt-a-Porter (ready-to-wear) Fashion Week, Couture (one-of-a-kind designer original) Fashion Week, Palm Springs Fashion Week (Resort Collections) and Bridal Fashion Week.

History

Omission of fashion week history would be curious at this point of time. Let me throw some light on that. Edna Woodman Chase—former editor of Vogue organized "Fashion Fete," in 1914 to benefit the war-relief effort which is often apocryphally called the first fashion show ever. By the 1920s, the fashion show had gone mainstream. Early shows were often more theatrical than those of today.

Fashion Jewelry

Looking for an affordable way to add jewelry to your collection? Well, fashion jewelry is certainly the way to go. Fashion jewelry is affordable, beautiful, and surprisingly will last a long time for the little amount of money that it cost.

So, what is fashion jewelry? Fashion jewelry is also known as costume jewelry. It was also, at one point in time, known as “paste”. Fashion jewelry is jewelry made using inexpensive materials. There are fashion necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, and even belly button rings. Some fashion jewelry cost as little as $.99 or less and is therefore affordable to anyone on any budget.

Why is fashion jewelry so affordable? Well, it’s made with inexpensive materials like cubic zirconium, simulated gemstones, and lab created gemstones. By using these inexpensive materials to make fashion jewelry the cost for the customers is extremely low.

If you have fashion jewelry already you might want to know some easy tips on how to take care of it. Fashion jewelry, although inexpensive, needs to be cared for in special ways. First of all, try to keep fashion jewelry from getting wet. This will make it last much longer. If fashion jewelry is gotten wet it’s likely to rust and turn colors. Also, make sure to take fashion jewelry off when not using it. Leaving fashion jewelry on too long can cause it to turn colors too due to the acids in the body.

So, if you are looking to purchase beautiful jewelry at an inexpensive price then fashion jewelry is the way to go. Fashion jewelry can also be purchased at many online stores and is therefore accessible to everyone.

Brief History Of Italian Fashion

Italy and Fashion have a very unique and special relationship, and when you consider such names as Dolce&Gabbana, Versace and Armani, to name but a few, it's not difficult to see why. But if we look back into the history of Italian Fashion, (e.g. see also the article on Nina Ricci) we start to understand what gave Italy such a status in the Fashion World.

Count Giorgini started the 'Italian Fashion' craze in 1951, when he organised a fashion show to be presented to an International audience in Florence. He then continued to present other fashion shows at his palace, presenting new collections modelled by nobilty against a backdrop of fine arts and scenery. Nobilty would also model new collections at museums or exhibitions next to famous pieces of fine art. This all contributed to elevating the status of Italian fashion, and implanting in everyone's minds that Italian fashion gives you status, is very rich in quality, and almost 'fairytale' like.

In the 1970s and 1980s Milan made its mark as being the Fashion Capital of Italy, and the phrase Made in Italy became universally recognised as meaning 'high quality', and 'high fashion'. Today there are various fashion trade fairs in Milan, and it is considered by many to be the Fashion Capital of The World.

Japan Fashion Week in NY

Japan Fashion Week
's Spring 2009 season of collections commences on Sept. 1, but for those New York residents unable to make the journey to Tokyo, Japan Fashion Week (JFW) organized a showcase of some of Japan's most promising emerging designers—Ato, Mikio Sakabe, Somarta, Ylang-Ylang, G.V.G.V., Mercibeaucoup and Ne-Net—at the newly opened Japanese-owned boutique Aloha Rag on Tuesday, Aug. 19, in New York.

The designs on view offered a distinct sampling of the range of styles that will be present at Japan Fashion Week. From the humor and whimsy of Ne-Net (a printed sweatshirt dress had a hood that resembled bunny ears) to the bold, almost cartoonish work of Mercibeaucoup, to the couture finishing of Somarta modern elegance of Ato, JFW hoped that with the impressive selection they would bolster the visibility of Japanese fashion design in the U.S., and perhaps encourage more foreign press and buyers to travel to Tokyo for the collections in the future. Last season, JFW reported a 25 percent increase in the number of foreign media in attendance.

Another case in point of the increased awareness of emerging Japanese talent: Alongside the JFW mannequins and models at Aloha Rag, the store's own rack of pieces by Ylang-Ylang were on sale, an indication of the increasing availability of some of these Japanese designers stateside.

South Africa's spotlighted at Cape Town catwalks

From avant-garde couture to wispy romantic ready-to-wear, South Africa's growing viability as a new fashion frontier was paraded on the ramps at Cape Town's Fashion Week this weekend.

Veteran South African designers launched their spring/summer 2008 collection alongside young unknowns as the country aims to provide a springboard for the growing array of fashion talent at the tip of Africa.

Bursting with creativity, South African designers are working to show their skills can compete worldwide.

Themba Mngomezulu -- the designer of South African label Darkie -- first became interested in fashion when he helped his mother sell secondhand clothes.

"We know what we want and who we are," Mngomezulu said after showing his latest collection, youthful and urban in seasonal brights peppered with slogans and the ever present image of the Afro-comb to the soulful sounds of Ray Charles and Nina Simone.

"We have got the vision in this country. Internationally people have been using Africa as an inspiration for years. It is time for African designers to benefit," says Evan Schiff, spokesman of Africa Fashion International, which runs the event.

"Traditionally the only stories coming out of Africa are of war, famine and despots. We are trying to put something else out there. There are lots of beautiful things coming out of here," he told AFP.

Getting designs to the world was made easier in a major coup for South African fashion recently, as designers from the continent's economic powerhouse were last year granted a permanent slot at Paris Fashion Week.

While four designers showed their spring/summer collections there last year, local household name Gavin Rajah became the only South African designer invited by France's prestigious Federation Francaise de la Couture to showcase his collections at the Paris Fashion Week.

Rajah's 2009 couture collection displayed in Cape Town combined the rhythmic kick of the tango, samba and bossanova with a Latin America inspired range in opulent sicilliene silks, tulle and chantilly lace and meticulous embroidery.

Full lacy skirts, beaded bustiers and romantic Spanish-inspired silk capes took the enraptured audience from Cuba to Argentina and Rio de Janeiro, from where old world architecture alongside modern asymmetry inspired Rajah.

He drew parallels between the radiant and diverse people of South Africa and South America.

Daring designer David Tlale was also true to dramatic form at the finale where models dazzled in red-sequined hands, lips and feet while draped in shimmering black designs.

Rajah, who founded Cape Town's fashion week, said South Africans, so long cut off internationally as a pariah under the former apartheid regime, had "learned to be a lot more innovative. We look at what we have and make do".

However launching spring/summer ranges as trend-setting Europe enters winter, he feels designers are echoing collections on international catwalks instead of putting their own twist on available fabrics and trends.

"The designers are following the trends far too late," he told AFP, adding local designers still had to fight the instinct of going overtly Afro-chic as they struggled to find their identity.

"As fashionable as traditional clothing may be it is not fashion. It has to translate into something that has commercial appeal," said Rajah, who has dressed Beyonce, Tyra Banks and Nelson Mandela.

While an economic crunch has seen thousands of job losses in South Africa's textile industry and a general tightening of belts, Schiff says a growing black middle class and the super-wealthy in the country meant there was still a market for exclusive design.

"There are people with money and they do want to look good."

Madonna dressing to her beat!

No matter what your taste, there's probably a Madonna for you.

The pop star, who is turning 50 Saturday, is one of fashion's great chameleons. She's been a punk princess and lady of the manor. She has channeled Marilyn Monroe, Eva Peron and a geisha.

The whole underwear-as-outerwear trend? That came from Madonna. Not to mention those '80s blondes who proudly showed their roots while wearing lace gloves and lots of chains. And would Kabbalah and yoga as lifestyle trends be where they are today without her?

"She's become an adjective. Friends will go shopping with each other and say, `It's so Madonna.' That's what you want in fashion," says stylist and TV commentator Robert Verdi.

Lately Madonna has mostly been spotted in workout gear, perhaps in preparation for her "Sticky & Sweet" world tour that will be partially outfitted by Givenchy. Designer Riccardo Tisci has worked up two outfits: a frock coat in black stretch satin and a long cape worn over a black dress embellished with colored ribbons — for a Gypsy-inspired outfit.

It's hard to say if the Gypsy look will start another trend. The cone-front corset Jean Paul Gaultier created for her Blond Ambition tour in 1990 didn't fully catch on with the masses.

But whether her looks are influential or merely memorable, Madonna always finds a way to connect with people and she never wears a look long enough for it to become stale, observes Verdi. If the disco revival look of her "Hung Up" era in 2005 clicked with him, her cowgirl-hat days in 2000 spoke to someone else.

"I don't love all her looks but can appreciate them all," he says. "She's always operated from a position that's a good hybrid of contemporary pop culture — the psyche of the nation — but also an artistic slant and art always pushes the envelope."
